Periodontitis and periimplantitis treatment

Chronic periodontitis and peri-implantitis are bacterial infections that damage the gums and teeth. If left untreated, periodontitis and peri-implantitis can lead to tooth and implant loss. Dr. Zimmer conducts microbiological tests, then uses his special, minimally invasive treatment to stop the progressive destruction of the bone and to diminish and close the periodontal pockets. For particularly severe diseases he additionally uses a dental laser.

Gum regeneration

Thin, sensitive gums can recede as a result of overbrushing. This gum loss exposes the roots of your teeth and causes the bone decay. Exposed roots can be painful. Extreme gingival recession can even result in tooth loss. Performing a minimally-invasive surgery under the microscope, Dr. Zimmer uses a gum graft from the palate to form new, robust gum tissue to prevent further recession. And in many cases Dr. Zimmer can also cover the exposed roots with this.

Periodontal prophylaxis

Malicious bacteria continue to survive in your mouth, even after periodontitis has healed. You need special periodontal aftercare to make sure these bacteria do not reinfect your gums. Our practice in Munich is specialized in periodontal teeth cleaning. We use special techniques to remove plaque from teeth and implants, particularly in hidden corners under the gums where patients cannot access. Regular prophylaxis can prevent periodontitis or peri-implantitis in patients not suffering from the disease.
